Individual Counseling
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling is a service offered to students in Kindergarten through 5th grade when an issue or situation interferes with a student’s performance at school. Students may be referred for counseling by a parent, a teacher or the students themselves. Counseling can be ongoing or short-term depending on the student and the situation.
Topics that a school counselor might address with students include:
If a student requires on-going counseling at school, the school counselor will often contact the parent to discuss the issues.
Serious behavior problems or severe family issues may require more in-depth counseling with a licensed professional counselor through an outside agency. Your school counselor can assist you with more information about resources in the community for counseling.
